While we only work directly with Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), our ultimate beneficiary group are poor micro-entrepreneurs in low and medium-income countries. In order to help them most effectively on their journey out of poverty, we only work with MFIs that operate to a high ethical standard and do not use exploitative or interest-bearing credit instruments.

Where we can, we will promote the use of microfinance for productive investments rather than consumption, although we recognise that poor people have financial needs for emergency spending and consumption smoothing.
